Every report gets an automatic confirmation and a personal answer within 5 days.

What to put in a report
Four things turn a report into something I can act on instead of guess at:
- The app version. Settings, then About.
- Your macOS or iOS version.
- Which provider it happens with. The same symptom often has a different cause per provider.
- The log entry. In the app, copy the entry and paste it in. It carries the timestamp and the exact response from the provider.
Never paste an API token, a password, or your NextDNS Linked IP URL into a report.
Issues on GitHub are public and stay public. If one slips through, revoke it at the provider first and tell me second. Revoking is what stops the damage; deleting the comment does not.

The same four things help: app version, system version, provider, and the copied log entry. Still no tokens and no passwords, please. I never need them to work out what went wrong.
Questions that come up often
A VPN is running and nothing updates
With a VPN connected, the app sees the address of the VPN instead of yours. It pauses updates by default, so your record does not end up pointing at the VPN exit. You can switch that off in Settings if you want it to update anyway.
NextDNS is never linked while a VPN is active. Linking would tie your profile to the wrong address.
My Hetzner token is rejected
Only tokens from the new Hetzner Console at console.hetzner.com work. Tokens from the old DNS Console stopped working when Hetzner shut that API down in May 2026.
Create a fresh token in the new console and paste that one. An old token does not fail with a clear message, it simply never succeeds.
Which NextDNS address do I need?
The Linked IP URL, from my.nextdns.io under Setup, then Linked IP. The DNS-over-HTTPS address sits close to it and looks similar, and it is the wrong one.
Treat the Linked IP URL as a secret. Anyone who has it can point your profile at their own address.
What happened to Google Domains?
The service has been discontinued. Existing records stay visible, but they are no longer updated, so a name that looks healthy can be pointing at an address you left behind weeks ago.
The domains moved to Squarespace. Move the name to a provider from the list and set it up again.
My Cloudflare record points at Cloudflare, not at me
That is the proxy. With it on, a lookup returns a Cloudflare address instead of your machine, which is exactly what you want for a website hosted at home.
For anything that needs your real address, set the proxy to always off in the app: firewall rules, VPN peers, SSH allowlists. It is a per provider setting.
